Because it utilizes electrolytic disinfection, the BALPURE^® system affords ship owners and managers numerous advantages compared to other electrochlorination, UV, ozone systems, and other technologies, particularly for crude oil tankers, chemical/product tankers, LNG/LPG carriers, bulk carriers and container ships.

• Slip stream treatment approach — the BALPURE system generates a disinfectant using only 1% of the total ballast water intake via a slip stream approach so installation into the critical ballast systems is not required.
• Low capital cost — especially true in medium to high flow rate applications such as crude oil tankers, chemical/product tankers, LNG/LPG carriers, bulk carriers and container ships.
• Low operating cost — There is only the cost for electricity to generate the active ingredients during the ballasting process, and the deballasting process uses less than 2 kW.
• Ease of installation — uses little space with its sub-assembly design that easily adapts to existing space configurations without requiring movement of existing mechanical equipment. Dry dock installation is available as well as a skid mounted configuration.
• Suitable for hazardous cargo area installations — the filter is the only part of the BALPURE system required for installation in the pump room. All other equipment can be placed in mechanical spaces classified as safe areas.
• Non-corrosive — the BALPURE system has received third-party assurance that it is non-corrosive and will not impact the life expectancy of ballast tank coatings, pipe work and associated valves, valve actuators and other ballast tank fittings and instrumentation.
• Easy to operate — fully automated process with minimal routine maintenance required.
• Operator safe — does not require hazardous chemical handling or storage since disinfectant is generated in situ and on-demand.
