Slip Stream Treatment Method
Using a slip stream approach, whereby approximately 1% of the total ballast water flow is used to generate the hypochlorite disinfection solution, the BALPURE system can be remotely mounted away from critical ballast systems.
- This slip stream approach allows for operation in low-salinity, low-temperature water quality environments.
- The slip stream approach is a major advantage on vessels with pump rooms or hazardous cargo areas.
- The BALPURE system can be installed in the engine room or in mechanical spaces classified as safe areas.
- The filter is the only part of the BALPURE system required for installation in the pump room and limits the amount of critical piping changes to the vessel design.

Advantageous for Tankers and Carriers
The BALPURE system design and treatment approach is especially advantageous for crude oil tankers, chemical/product tankers, LNG/LPG carriers, bulk carriers and container ships. BALPURE accommodates ballast water treatment for vessels ranging from 500 to 20,000 m3/h.
Proven, Automated Process
The BALPURE system operates autonomously throughout the ballasting/deballasting cycle. It utilizes a proven electrolytic treatment process to generate a disinfectant solution, in situ and on demand, using only electricity and seawater. A residual disinfectant remains in the vessel’s ballast water tanks during the voyage, eliminating the potential for regrowth of organisms during transit. All active compounds generated in the electrolytic disinfection process are safely neutralized before deballasting.
