Ballast Water Treatment System
Understanding the threat of aquatic invasive species (AIS) and providing proven treatment solutions.
Ballast water is the most frequently cited cause of the transfer and introduction of aquatic invasive species (AIS) which damage and negatively impact marine ecosystems. Ballast water management strategies, coupled with forthcoming IMO regulation, aim to prevent, reduce or eliminate the transfer of AIS and pathogens through the control and treatment of vessel’s ballast water and sediments.
Ballast water treatment systems are a proven method of preventing the introduction of AIS into local marine ecosystems. Technologies used for treating ballast water are typically identified as solid-liquid separation, disinfection or some combination of the two.
Severn Trent De Nora, over the span of more than 35 years, has perfected the on-site generation of sodium hypochlorite disinfectant. We offer the Type-Approved BALPURE® electrolytic disinfection ballast water treatment system as an economical and environmentally friendly solution to the threat of AIS.
