Efficacy of electrochlorination disinfection and BALPURE ballast water treatment system further proven
The BALPURE® ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora received final approval from the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee* (MEPC) 61st session, 27 September to 1 October, 2010. Type approval of the BALPURE equipment is anticipated in early 2011.
Ballast water is the most frequently cited cause of the introduction and transfer of non-indigenous species (NIS) into waterways. Ballast water treatment systems, especially those based on electrochlorination disinfection, are a proven approach to limiting the introduction and transfer of NIS.
